Since the industrial revolution started, greenhouse gas emissions, mainly CO2, have caused increasingly prominent climate change and a series of environmental problems, which have become a serious challenge in the 21st century.
In September 2020, China put forward its climate action goal that carbon emissions would peak by 2030 and carbon neutral would be reached by 2060. The goal fully reflects China’s efforts to manage climate change, as well as its firm determination to actively deal with climate change and take the road of sustainable and low-carbon development. The action also demonstrates China’s responsibility to take the initiative to address climate change and construct a community of shared future for mankind.

Just under such a background, Professor Song Chunfeng, key member of Air Pollution Control and Biomass Energy Laboraroty in Tianjin University (research group homepage: http://catalysis.tju.edu.cn/), was invited by CCTV-10 channel to participate in its science program “Perspective Of New Technology”. In the program, Song delivers a systematic view of the general background and the latest scientific achievements in the field of CO2 capture and resource utilization. He also introduces in a simple manner the relationship between CO2 emissions and climate change, CO2 capture technology and its cutting-edge progress, CO2 utilization and resource utilization, as well as other hot topics. His introduction provides a theoretical guidance for the public to understand CO2 reduction and low carbon, so as to enhance the common awareness of coping with climate change.

Since its establishment in 2003, Air Pollution Control and Biomass Energy Laboraroty in Tianjin University has focused on the major national goal of “carbon neutral”, with the context of clean utilization of fossil energy and climate change response. The team has long been committed to air pollution control, environmental functional materials design, and clean energy research and development. At present, it has presided over the national key research and development plan, National Natural Science Foundation and other national projects in CO2 capture in low temperature or with membrane separation, biological resources and other related directions. And they have made a series of progress in basic research and engineering applications, contributing to climate change response.
The TV show had its premiere on CCTV 10 at 19:31 on March 27th, and was rebroadcasted at 12:49 on March 29th, 10:06 on March 31st and 10:06 on April 1st.
