On December 20, Wang Yubo, the deputy secretary of the Yunnan Provincial Party Committee and acting governor, met with Li Jiajun, secretary of the Party Committee of Tianjin University (TJU). Chen Shun, vice governor of Yunnan Province, Yang Jie, secretary-general of Provincial Government, Hu Wenbin, dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering of TJU, and Wei Haiqiao, assistant dean of the Office of Science and Technology, and other relevant officials attended the meeting.
Wang Yubo welcomed Li Jiajun and his delegation to Yunnan. He said that steeped in history and culture, Tianjin University is the first modern university in China, and a leader in scientific research, teaching and management. Yunnan Province is in a high-quality development stage, with increasing comprehensive economic strength and growing demand for high-quality talent, so there is an urgent need to strengthen cooperation with renowned universities like Tianjin University. Wang said Yunnan province would accelerate the training of much-needed talents and actively introduce highly-skilled professionals to create new drivers for scientific and technological innovation. In doing so, it will help Yunnan Province to enhance scientific and technological innovation, deepen openness, cooperation and communication, bolster innovation momentum and innovation capacity, and turn research outcomes into real productivity. “Thanks to this meeting, we have deepened our understanding of Tianjin University, and hope that TJU can leverage their power of intellectual resources and talents, etc., finding more cooperation opportunities such as scientific research, teaching, enrollment and management in the future, so as to make great contributions to Yunnan's sound development” Wang said.
Li Jiajun introduced TJU's development and its achievements in talent training, discipline development and scientific research. He said that Tianjin University places a high value on patriotism. Throughout the 125 years, Tianjin University has adhered to the motto of "Seeking Truth from Facts", and generations of TJUers have devoted themselves to the country's development, demonstrating "Tianjin University's Character". And in recent years, TJU has proposed the TJU's 2.0 program about Emerging Engineering Education, and continues to cultivate top talent who can serve the cities at the community level as well as the construction of our country. Recently, Yunnan Province has shown a good momentum of economic and social development, and Tianjin University has always had a sound cooperation relationship with Yunnan Province. We hope to strengthen communication in the future, and further cooperation in scientific and technological innovation, education reform and talent training in accordance with the reality of Yunnan Province's industries. Furthermore, Tianjin University will pay close attention to the industrial development of Yunnan Province, give full play to its discipline, talent, and science and technology advantage to make significant contributions to the regional economic development of Yunnan Province.
