On January 10 the first Graduation and Degree Awarding Ceremony for Postgraduate Students was held at the Weijin Road Campus. Amidst the joy of graduation and the blessing of alma mater, 194 doctoral students and 2789 postgraduate students of Tianjin University graduated and opened a new chapter in their lives.
The ceremony began with the solemn national anthem. During the event, Jin Donghan, President of Tianjin University and academician of the Chinese Academy of engineering, shared some encouraging words of advice with new graduates, “Run continuously, pursue the dream of the future. May your heart be as solid as a rock, and you may walk as far as you want. On the way forward, don’t forget to go home." He hoped that everyone would seize the day and never waste their time, that they would take today's China as their stage and tomorrow's China as their coordinate, let their life bloom brilliantly in the pursuit of the Chinese dream, and let youth have a broad prospect in the new era. The golden period of your career overlaps with the critical period of national rejuvenation, which requires you to run towards the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation with a never slacking mental state and an indomitable attitude." In his speech, Jin Donghan expressed his wish for the graduates to go far. In pursuit of their dreams, and to never give up.
Yuan Huazhi, a distinguished alumni representative and senior partner of Beijing Dacheng Law Firm, shared his study story and course of struggle with students. He expressed warm congratulations and best wishes to the graduates and paid high tribute to the teachers, students and staffs of his alma mater. He said that graduation is not the end, but a starting point. From now on, travel to the ultimate goal of "better" has just begun. He hoped students will be down-to-earth, act dutifully, choose the best, be desirable, be modest, and be clear about what is right and wrong.
Zhang Tao, supervisor representative from the School of Electrical and Information Engineering said in his speech. "I hope you will cherish the motherland and have lofty aspirations; I hope that you will continue to study and never be complacent." He hoped that the students would form a good habit of lifelong learning, always keep the interest and enthusiasm of thinking, and gain the strength to move forward in continuous learning.
Pu Zhihua, a doctoral student of the School of Precision Instrument and Optoelectronics Engineering, made a speech as a graduate representative. In his six years of study at Tianjin University, he has gained scientific research achievements, honor, love and family. He published 18 academic papers as the first author. Two of them were published as cover articles in area I of the SCI journal which ranks first in the field, and made two conference reports at the top international academic conferences in the field. He also served as monitor of the class, vice chairman of doctoral student association, participated in the Peiyang chorus, and volunteered for the Paralympic Games. In his opinion, if one wants to break through the cocoon and become a butterfly, one needs to suffer; if one wants to create a better life, one needs to work hard. He also called on all the students to continue to adhere to the motto of Tianjin University to “seek truth from facts.” He called on all students to remain true to their original aspiration and strive hard to pursue the great dream as an outstanding Tianjin University person.
