On October 13, the signing ceremony of the “Cooperation Agreement on Scientific Research and Talent” between Tianjin University and the Second Academy of China Aerospace Science and Industry Corp. (CASIC) was held at the Weijin Road Campus.

During the event, the “Academician Yao Jianquan Workshop at the CASIC Second Academy" and the University Enterprise Club (“Tianjin University – CASIC Second Academy”) were launched.

Academician Yao Jianquan spoke at the ceremony. He reflected on the cooperation and exchange between the Second Academy of CASIC and the research teams led by him over the past years. Combining the experience of front-line teaching, scientific research and talent training, he described his understanding of innovation in science and technology, expressed his desire for further deepening the bilateral cooperation through the Workshop and hoped to make a greater contribution to national defense development.

Party Secretary Ma Jie of the Second Academy of CASIC spoke highly of the contribution made by TJU to China's scientific and technological progress, national defense construction and national economic development, and expected more cooperation. She hoped that the two sides would not only integrate resources but also integrate theory with practice through the “Cooperation Agreement on Scientific Research and Talent”, achieving new levels of industry-university-research cooperation, building collaborative innovation teams and joint laboratories, thus building a foundation for the introduction and training of high-level scientific and technological talent. She said, as a strong support for the implementation of the cooperation agreement, the Workshop of Academician Yao will gradually participate in the technological planning work of the Academy in the future, and work together with the Second Academy of CASIC to undertake national key projects and research and development. At the same time, Ma hoped the “TJU-Second Academy” Club could be a bridge linking students and enterprises to bring together aspiring young students, who are concerned about national defense construction and aerospace as a career, and to provide the students with a platform for their growth and development as well as a showcase of their talent.

Party Secretary Li Jiajun stated that TJU would take the Workshop as a platform for research cooperation and integrate the resources of the University to support the cooperation between TJU and the Second Academy. At the same time, through the development of the “TJU-Second Academy” Club, the University would extend students' creative thinking, help to attain breakthrough technologies and spark ideas in the communication between the students and the Second Academy, strengthen the guidance of student's values and encourage students to make achievements and to establish their careers springing from the platform. He pointed out that TJU is striving to be a world-class university. The cooperation with the Second Academy has set a good example. TJU should focus on the leading-edge and major national strategic needs through cooperation with the Second Academy, take a stand on the national economy, continuously broaden areas of cooperation and carry out the agreement, thus achieving the University’s dream of building a world-class university and the national dream of being strong in aerospace.

Afterwards, the leaders of the Second Academy of CASIC visited the History Museum and related key laboratories at TJU. Additionally, an academic exchange was held between the experts of the Second Academy of CASIC and the professors from the School of Mechanical Engineering, the School of Precision Instrument & Opto-electronics Engineering, the School of Electrical Automation and Information Engineering, and the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology of Tianjin University.
