 Campus

On February 15, 2018, Zhong Denghua, the President of Tianjin University celebrated the Chinese New Year’s Eve with more than 200 students and teachers who had remained on the campus from home and abroad, bringing them home-like warmth.

In the afternoon, students and teachers gathered at the decorated canteen at Weijin Road campus of Tianjin University. Dog dolls and red scarves were supplied. President Zhong Denghua, Vice President Zhang Fengbao and other department heads celebrated the Chinese New Year with them.

Zhong Denghua extended his greetings to the students, teachers and their families. He said, only the word happy could describe his feeling of sharing this moment. Tianjin University had developed greatly in 2017 with the joint efforts of all the students and staff. In 2018, we need to struggle to build a world renowned first-class university by embracing the new era with a new look.

The students and teachers performed a wonderful arts program, including ethnic dances, song solos, and magic shows. In the lucky draw session, the principals had prepared exquisite and practical gifts for these students and teachers. What made the students and teachers surprised and touched even more was that Zhong Denghua and Zhang Fengbao also presented red envelopes and selected books for each Chinese and foreign student there. "A book and a red envelope," a different New Year's gift, conveyed the full blessing, care and expectation of Tianjin University to the students.

Xu Jing is a second year student from the software college. She stayed in school to do a part-time job to reduce the financial burden on her family, as well as improving her ability. She said she would long remember this special Chinese New Year Eve celebration with so many alumni and teachers. A student from Xinjiang said he was happy to observe the holiday at the campus and was thankful for the considerate arrangements of Tianjin University.

Students also got video greetings from their families and alumni from home and abroad also send greetings by video.

The warmhearted tradition of giving New Year gifts and red envelops and celebrating New Year Eve has been followed in Tianjin University for more than 20 years. This year, the University also distributed a "Spring Festival package" to hundreds of students staying for the Spring Festival of fruits, dried fruits and candies. They had a variety of ways to celebrate the traditional festival, such as writing the character “Fu”, guessing lantern riddles, cutting paper-cuts for window decoration and making dumplings. Moreover, Tianjin University also posted information on the official homepage, website and various news media platforms on winter holiday safety and services, prompting students to plan their time well and spend a safe, fulfilling and happy holiday.
