Recently, the Founding Conference of The Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP) of the People’s Republic of China-Tianjin University (TJU) Prosecutorial Theory Research Institute and the “New Era Law Supervision Theory” seminar were held at the SPP. Deputy Prosecutor General of the SPP, Xu Xianming and Party Secretary of TJU Li Jiajun attended the event. Xie Pengcheng, Director of the Prosecutorial Theory Institute of the SPP, Wang Shouan, Director of the Criminal Enforcement Office of the SPP, Zhang Junyan, Director of Office of Humanities and Social Sciences of TJU, Sun Youhai, Dean of the TJU Law School, and other Directors, Professors, and researchers attended the conference. 

In the Founding Conference, Professor Sun Youhai illustrated the draft of the agreement. Xie Pengcheng and Sun Youhai signed the agreementsThe Supreme People’s Procuratorate of the People’s Republic of China-Tianjin University Prosecutorial Theory Research Institute. Xu Xianming, Li Jiajun, Xie Pengcheng and Dai Changlin inaugurated the Institute and Li Jiajun gave a speech. 

Li Jiajun outlined the long history of TJU Law School and described the achievements of the Law School, and congratulated everyone on the establishment of the Institute. He said, Law is a major discipline with extremely important practical applications. Since the Institute provides an excellent platform for TJU, the School will take advantage of this opportunity to support the Institute and make continuous contributions to the prosecutorial system under Socialism with Chinese characteristics by training talent, improving quality and creating a number of high quality research results in prosecutorial theory.  

Xu Xianming said, the Institute is a significant initiative for exploring and deepening theory research through the cooperation between the SPP and universities. He put forward three requirements: firstly, politics should be concerned, for law is the outward manifestation of politics, therefore, the research of legal system should be based on the correct political stand, especially with reference to President Xi Jinping’s“Thoughts on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era”; secondly, the goals should be high, and the fundamental research of prosecutorial theory should be strengthened and be innovative; thirdly, the standard of work should be high, and efforts should be put into attaining optimal results. He hoped that both sides will work together and cooperate wholeheartedly in order to attain high quality research results as soon as possible.
