To further promote the internationalization quality improvement plan, Professor Wang Bin, Associate Dean of the College of Engineering, Brunel University, UK was invited to visit the School of Precision Instrument and Opto-electronic Engineering (SPIOEE), at Tianjin University on March 19th. In-depth communication was expanded on the issues of international exchange programs and research cooperation. Zeng Zhoumo, College Dean of SPIOEE, Wang Hailong, Party Committee Secretary, Cai Huaiyu, Cao Yuzhen, Associate Deans and Zhang Yu, Party Committee Deputy Secretary also participated in the forum.
On the behalf of the college, Zeng Zhoumo warmly welcomed Wang Bin. Wang hailong briefed the development of Tianjin University (TJU), its historical evolution, academic strength, and international cooperation. Subsequently, Wang Bin shared the history and development of Brunel University, especially in Engineering, Technology, Pedagogy, Applied Science, and Social Science. He emphasized that international communication is highly encouraged at Brunel University, and they continuously expand cross-discipline cooperation and actively promote interaction and cooperation between professors and students. The main area of discussion was the International Student Exchange Program, which included various cooperation models, ranging from the “2+2”、“3+1”、“3+1+1” long-term projects to 3-months exchange programs. Both sides expressed their willingness to cooperate in depth and the desire to promote the implementation of the project as soon as possible.
During the visit, Wang Bin also took a tour around Tianjin University History Museum and Micro Optical Electronic Mechanical System Technology Laboratory, gaining insight into the current status of SPIOEE and laying the foundation for further cooperation.
It is reported that Acton Technical College, the predecessor of Brunel University, was founded in 1928 in London. The institute now located in Uxbridge. Since its establishment in 1966, it has been devoted to the research of the teaching and practical application of high quality courses. There are now 13000 students in the school, of which about 2000 are international students who come from 113 countries. Brunel University based on scientific research, the course focuses on the following fields: Engineering, technology, pure and applied science, education and Social Sciences (including law, economics and management), humanities, visual and performing arts, sports science, geography, health and social studies. The dominant research disciplines of Brunel University include: Mathematics and computer science, pure theoretical and Applied Sciences, social sciences, sports science, art and performing arts, business, education, engineering and technology, industrial design, law and economics. Among the more than 120 universities in the UK, Brunel University is ranked amongst the top 15% for teaching quality. It has been ranked within the top ten in the UK for design, engineering, education and other disciplines, and is often awarded high marks in official evaluations.
