President Zhong Denghua at the 2018 APAIE Presidents’ Roundtable

On March 27, 2018, President Zhong Denghua participated in the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) 2018 Presidents’ Roundtable held at the National University of Singapore (NUS).  

President Zhong spoke on ‘Innovative Engineering Education: an innovative engineering educational model. In recent years, in combination with TJU’s educational reform, led by TJU, it was adopted by China’s higher institutions of learning.  

President Zhong said that Innovative engineering education is an active response to the new round of technological and industrial reform, and is China’s proposed solution to promote reform of engineering higher education worldwide.  

President Zhong detailed TJU’s practical measures for innovative engineering education. He invited the attendees to take part in the International Innovative Engineering Education Forum to be held in April by TJU to exchange their viewpoints on developing innovative engineering education.  

President Tan Eng Chye of NUS made special arrangements to meet with President Zhong and other TJU delegates during the conference. Based on cooperation at faculty level, the two sides reached an agreement on expanding their cooperation fields, with the purpose of establishing a strategic partnership. President Zhong also communicated with Presidents of other universities and expressed his expectations to deepen their cooperation in talent cultivation and scientific research.  

The Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) was established in Seoul, South Korea in 2004 by a Founding Committee consisting of thirteen university representatives from across the Asia Pacific region and has since expanded to become a thriving association. APAIE aims to encourage greater cooperation between institutions, to enrich and support international programs, activities and exchange and to promote the value of international education across the region and beyond. In doing so, APAIE devotes itself to the principles of mutual respect, diversity and collective progress.
