RMIT and Tianjin University to Further Cooperation in Design

On March 27, 2018, Mr. Andrew MacIntyre, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Global Development and Vice-President of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), led a delegation to visit Tianjin University to promote further cooperation in the designing field.  

Vice President Hu Wenping of Tianjin University indicated that RMIT and Tianjin University have developed in-depth cooperation in numerous fields, such as the advanced automobiles and 3D printing. 

Vice President Hu added that the cooperation between two universities have been deepened and extended from the university level down to the schools. RMIT is strong in the field of design, which is distributed among different schools such as the Schools of Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, and Computer Software at Tianjin University. The disciplinary docking of the field may find common interests in design, and more disciplines are expected to dock in the future to expand cooperation into more fields. 

Vice President, Andrew MacIntyre emphasized that RMIT highly values the partnership between RMIT and Tianjin University. Along with the delegation, the Dean of the School of Design of RMIT visited Tianjin University to seek further cooperation. Vice President MacIntyre said that it is hoped to develop further cooperation in the fields of industrial design, and digital design, and develop cooperation through various forms including faculty and student exchange. 

In addition, the two sides discussed specific research areas and ways of cooperating in the future and reached an agreement on the further cooperation including faculty and student exchange, joint training exchange programs, and joint design exhibitions and forums, among others. 

One of Australia's original tertiary institutions, RMIT University enjoys an international reputation for excellence in professional and vocational education, applied research, and engagement with the needs of industry and the community. RMIT is a world leader in Art and Design; Architecture; Education; Engineering; Development; Computer Science and Information Systems; Business and Management; and Communication and Media Studies. Currently, RMIT and Tianjin University have mutual student exchange programs, and two joint virtual research centers.
