On March 24, the final of the 9th China Mathematical Competition was held at Xi’an Jiaotong University. The Tianjin University team led by Zhang Yuqin, a School of Mathematics teacher, achieved great success in the competition. All of the eight members achieved good results. Liu Zizheng and Wang Yongjie won first prizes for non-mathematics students, Lv Lingling, He Hangxin, Wang Kangsheng, and Zou Qiubo won second prizes for non-mathematics students, and Zhang Yuming and Zuo Fengyi won a second prize for mathematics students.

“All for students, for students’ all and for all students,” Zhang Yuqin said when talking about feelings of getting along with the students. “Since the 8th Teaching Conference, Tianjin University has promoted the teaching model of teacher-student interaction. The communication between students and I is actually such a good dialogue process for teaching and learning. The students’ feedback and questioning are also the processes that make for my ‘self-renewal’.”

Zhao Fengjun, a 2015 undergraduate of the School of Mathematics, who won a second prize in mathematics in this contest, said: “Participating in this competition was a good exercise and a challenge for me. It allowed me further reflection on the relationship between ‘teaching and learning, internal and external’, broadened my horizons and made me aware of the deficiencies of only learning in the classroom. Communication with other excellent students often gives me new ideas I have never had before.”

Liu Zizheng and Wang Yongjie, who won first prizes for non-mathematics students, talked about the feeling of participating in the competition and said: “Faced with the global trend of informatization and intelligentalization, further learning and understanding on mathematics can lay a solid foundation for our in-depth and continuous research in various professional fields, and even further stimulate cross-discipline innovation.”
