Nine “emerging engineering” research and practice programs from Tianjin University were selected in the first batch of “emerging engineering” programs by the Ministry of Education, outnumbering the number of selected programs from other domestic universities.  

The Ministry of Education approved 612 “emerging engineering” programs including 202 comprehensive reform and 410 reforms on majors. The comprehensive reform programs were divided by universities with engineering strength, comprehensive universities, and local universities. The programs of reform on majors included 19 program clusters such as artificial intelligence, big data, and intelligent manufacturing.  

The nine TJU programs consisted of six comprehensive reform programs and three programs of reform on majors.  

The ”emerging engineering” development aims at accelerating the cultivation of engineering talent for emerging fields, upgrading traditional engineering majors and modelling the fields of future strategies for the cultivation of talented people.
