Environmental Protection Activities for World Earth Day

 Campus

On April 22, 2018, to coincide with World Earth Day, the Youth Volunteers’ Association of Qiushi and the Youth Volunteers’ Association of the College of Architecture and Engineering jointly held an environmental protection activity with the theme of “Earth Day” outside the Zhuyuan restaurant, with more than 100 students participated.

Environmental Protection Activities held for World Earth Day

During the activity, four rounds of easy tasks attracted participants' attention to “environmental protection”. When completing the "Environmental Protection Initiative" punching the clock session, the students signed their names on the "Earth Day” banners. Many students were drawn to the "Garbage Sorting”, "Looking for Earth’s Beauty", "Game Wheel" and "Garbage Classification Mystery Box", especially the five-color game wheel and naming five things corresponding to the colors of the natural world. All activities involved starting from the heart and discovering the beauty of nature. During the "Environmental Knowledge Quiz" session, science and engineering students raised questions about environmental crises in real life. It not only encouraged the students to think, but also helped to popularize knowledge in the process of correcting mistaken assumptions.

While enjoying the activity, everyone was able to learn something. Some students were puzzling over the problem of “the most hazy city in China” and “the country with the largest ozone hole”. Others were cheered by the fact that 10 ping-pong balls with different names were sorted into the correct garbage can.

Qiu Yueqing, a student of Qiushi Honors College, was one of the participants in the event: "Don't let the last drop of water in the world become your tears, and the environment and resources are always crucial.” She said this activity has taught her a lot of relevant knowledge that she have not been exposed to before. The earth is our home, and we should take good care of it.

Participants join the tasks

"Although there was light rain in Peiyangyuan Campus where the power was cut off, I saw all the banners with signatures of students hanging around the event site, we felt that everything was worth it.” The activity was held by the Youth Volunteer Association of Qiushi, and Qiushi President Wang He said: “Through the organization of activities, I also learned more about “Earth Day”, and learned that each of us can do what we can to protect the environment. This activity just called everyone to pay attention to environmental protection and be concerned for the beginning of global protection. Next, we will prepare more elaborately prepared activities to share with you!”

It is reported that during the early stage, the two colleges organized a  “planning competition”, also the activity of "winning bid" was carefully prepared. Volunteers try to convey the concept of environmental protection with the most relaxed and lively way, and they used the subtlest knowledge to encourage everyone to participate in the conservation of resources. The theme of the activity is to guide everyone to develop good habits in their lives, live green and sustainable, and gather the power of all people to contribute to resource recovery and low-carbon lives.
