On May 11 and 12, the two-day Educational Instrument and Equipment Exhibition was held at Peiyangyuan Campus. This exhibition aimed to help students and professors in their experiments and help develop new engineering disciplines. The exhibition was co-sponsored by over 30 universities and institutions, including the Committee of Institutions of Higher Learning Lab Affairs and Nankai University.

Liu Dongzhi, TJU’s member of the Standing Committee and Vice-President, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. He said that since the first exhibition, it has focused on higher education reform and its development, and took as its aim the facilitation of education and scientific research in higher institutions and talent cultivation. The exhibition has become part of a unique culture at TJU, and has served as a stepping stone on the road to becoming a world class university and a university with its own uniqueness featuring Chinese socialist characteristics.

Over 160 domestic and overseas instrument and equipment companies joined in the exhibition. The exhibition was divided into 10 special galleries and 4 themed galleries, and the fields ranged from analytical tests, electronic measurement, information technology, multimedia and virtual education, and so on. One of the themed exhibitions was the Education Ecosphere, at which applications like the Ecological Campus, Smart Teaching, Clout Computing and the Smart Office were exhibited. All of them were based on advanced technologies.

Over 3000 students and teaching staff came to the exhibition and obtained firsthand experience of the instruments and equipment.

There were 5 academic lectures held at the exhibition, which provided people with information on the advanced technologies on display. Domestic and overseas senior engineers presented many topics at the lectures, including the management of chemicals, the disposal of chemical leakage, laboratory water standards and its integrated solutions, artificial intelligence, HPC, etc. More than 200 students and teaching staff came to the lectures. In order to inform people of purchasing policies, the Office of State-owned Assets and Equipment Management Tianjin University held a training event and gave a detailed information. According to the Office, students and teachers are able to manage the whole process of purchasing through the Comprehensive Management System of Asset and Equipment, which facilitates convenient purchasing and effective management.

In order to serve the students of the two campuses, the exhibition is held in turn at each campus. The annual year-exhibition is held at the Peiyangyuan Campus on even years and at the Weijin Road Campus on alternate years.
