On May 21, 2018, Mrs. Zhou Bingde, the niece of the late Premier Zhou Enlai and former Vice President of the China News Service, lectured on the family tradition of the late Premier Zhou Enlai at Peiyang Lecture Hall.

Before the lecture, the Party Secretary of Tianjin University (TJU) Li Jiajun, the Vice President of TJU Liu Dongzhi and other representatives met with Mrs. Zhou. During the meeting, Mrs. Zhou Bingde was appointed as a Distinguished Professor of Tianjin University.

The lecture was attended by the President of the Enlai Foundation, Shen Qing, and about 300 TJU teachers and students.

As Premier Zhou Enlai’s eldest niece, Zhou Bingde moved into Zhongnanhai at 12 years of age. Zhou Bingde lived with Premier Zhou for more than ten years, which allowed her to share many details about Premier Zhou’s life, such as Premier Zhou’s opposition to privileges and teaching his later generations to refuse special treatment.

During the lecture, teachers and students were deeply touched by Premier Zhou’s deeds. By vivid stories, Madam Zhou presented to us a kind, loyal, altruistic Premier with a great sense of responsibility.

Wang Chunshan, from the School of Computer Science, said after the lecture: “The younger generations in Premier Zhou’s family, worked in places at the community level and under severe living conditions in order to meet the demands of the country. I will also go to places where my country needs me most. Only when I can make real contributions to my country, will my job be valuable and meaningful.”

Tianjin was where Premier Zhou started his revolution and also his “second hometown”. Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Premier Zhou visited Tianjin many times. In 1957 and 1959, he came to TJU and delivered speeches, greatly inspiring teachers and students.
