On May 24, 2018, a signing ceremony for comprehensive cooperation between Tianjin University (TJU) and Guiyang Municipal Government was held in the city of Guiyang.
Both parties made a pledge to work intensively in numerous fields including: establishing joint R&D institutions in major industries, R&D and transformation of science and technology projects, cooperation between industry-university-research institutions as well as personnel exchange. The cooperation is expected to facilitate the upgrading of Guiyang’s industrial mix and provide momentum for Tianjin University becoming a world-class university. Both Zhao Deming, Member of the Standing Committee of Guizhou Provincial Committee and Secretary of the Guiyang Municipal Party Committee, and Li Jiajun, Party Secretary of Tianjin University, spoke at the event.
Yuan Yingjin, Vice President of Tianjin University, and Wei Dingmei, Vice Mayor of Guiyang City, signed the contract on behalf of the two parties.
At the ceremony, Li Jiajun made reference to the history and cultural heritage of Tianjin University. He said that Tianjin University has already embarked on a new journey to build itself into a world-class university with the Tianjin University character with Chinese characteristics. So far, Tianjin University has gained substantial advances in various fields including: expanding the university space, developing “Emerging Engineering education”, fulfilling first-class undergraduate education and scientific research goals, as well as cultivating and introducing talented faculty and students. In its cooperation with Guiyang Municipal Government, TJU will contribute its expertise in science and technology, education and human resources to ensure both parties achieve more substantive results in the transformation of high-tech, the establishment of R&D institutions, the cultivation of high-caliber personnel, and cooperation with local governments. It will seize the opportunities presented by the economic and social development of Guiyang and work with Guiyang to establish a management system and operational mechanisms that are conducive to industry-university-research cooperation and compatible with the development of local industries. By so doing, TJU can help Guiyang expedite the scientific and technological innovation process and make ever greater contributions to helping Guiyang implement the national innovation-driven strategy and obtain economic and social development.
Zhao Deming, on behalf of the Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government, extended a warm welcome to Li Jiajun and expressed his sincere appreciation to Tianjin University for giving full support to Guiyang’s economic and social development over the past few years. He said that the cooperation between the two parties was initiated just in time. It is a win-win cooperation required by the times. Guiyang is now vigorously implementing its innovation-driven strategy, in this context, as a strategic move, it is building a big-data center and striving to make it China’s “Data Valley”. He contended that both parties should carry out closer cooperation in more extensive areas to achieve more specific goals.
As early as in July 2012, TJU signed a comprehensive cooperation framework agreement with Guizhou provincial government. Since then, the two sides have made remarkable achievements in science and technology education, planning and construction, among other things. In 2016, Guiyang Municipal Government and Tianjin University initiated a new cooperation mechanism between the city of Guiyang and TJU which brought positive results in TJU’s cooperation with Guizhou University, the College of Guiyang, Kailin Group, and the CETC Data Research Institute Co. Ltd.
Also at the signing ceremony were officials from associated departments under the direct administration of Guiyang Municipal Government and from different departments and offices of TJU.
On the same day, Li Jiajun visited Guiyang University. Li, in a symposium held there, further exchanged ideas with leaders of the Guiyang University and arranged to assist Guiyang University in its development.
