Tianjin University Team Wins CUPT North China Division Top Award

On May 19, the North China division of the first China Undergraduate Physics Tournament (CUPT) in was held at Beihang University. Tianjin University won the Top Award in this tournament.

Eighteen teams from 17 colleges and universities in the North China division attended the tournament. The Tianjin University team was composed of 5 student physics enthusiasts from different schools, including Bai Yiming from the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Li Renyun from the School of Mechanical Engineering, He Lidan from the School of Electrical and Information Engineering, Lu Shengyue from the School of Civil Engineering and Huo Jierong from the School of Science. In the three rounds of challenge competition, the five players cooperated well with each other and won the first prize in each round and finally Tianjin University won the top award by ranking first in the total three rounds.

CUPT is a nationwide tournament and is one of the major university student innovation contests that received support from the Ministry of Education as part of the plan to implement the Outline of National Medium-and Long-Term Program for Education and Reform and Development. The tournament is in the form of debates, which aim to enhance students' scientific literacy and ability to comprehensively apply physical and other knowledge to solve practical problems and to cultivate the participants' innovation awareness, innovation ability, collaborative spirit and practical ability.

The CUPT, with its unique competition model and concept, has attracted nearly all of the universities listed in the "Double-First Class" construction phase to participate and it has become one of the top-level academic tournaments recognized by colleges and universities in China.
