To further explore how to better support the construction of "world-class universities and first-class disciplines", the 20th Annual Conference for Library Curators of Universities of Engineering was held at the Zheng Dong Library, Peiyangyuan Campus, Tianjin University (TJU) between May 23 to 26, 2018. Library curators from 17 universities of engineering, including Tianjin University, Tsinghua University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Harbin Institute of Technology, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Tongji University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Sichuan University, attended the conference. Tianjin University Vice Party Secretary Sun Guangping attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Zhang Qichang, director of the TJU Library, among others, participated in the meeting.

This Conference focused on the developmental trends of libraries at universities and colleges under the new media environment in the age of Big Data. Participants explored ideas for the development of libraries and shared the achievements made by their own universities in space construction and service innovation.

In his speech, Sun Guangping hoped that the Conference would provide a free platform in which participants could have in-depth discussions on how university and college libraries better serve teaching, scientific research, and strategic development of institutions of higher education and on how libraries better promote the construction of "double first-class" universities and colleges.

Zhang Qichang, who gave a keynote speech on the “Opportunities and Challenges Brought to Libraries in the Age of Big Data and New Media Environment”, shared the vision and positioning, space reshaping, and service innovation of TJU Library.

Deng Jingkang, Director of the Tsinghua University Library, delivered a speech on the extended applications of the Tsinghua Scholar Database. He explored three aspects, namely the release of the quarterly and annual reports, basic data construction and scholars' discoveries.

Chen Jin, Director of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Library, expressed his opinions on the purpose, theme, form of the annual conference, as well as his expectations for its future development.

Other heads from university libraries also delivered keynote speeches on various topics, for example, the analysis of discipline trends based on research frontiers, thoughts and practice on the innovation of services and resource construction of libraries, exploration and practice on subjects service under the goal of "double first-class" construction.
