I’m Manko Vladimir (Chinese name Ou Wa), coming from Class One.

When I was studying in Russia, I had a keen interest in Chinese culture. Last year right after my graduation, I told my parents that I wanted to learn Chinese in China. Although they considered my idea a little weird, they supported me and sent me to Tianjin University to further my education. Before I went to China, I regarded Chinese as the most difficult language in the world. I hadn’t learned Chinese before, so when I was first trying to learn it, my mother and I were very worried. Personally speaking, Chinese grammar is not difficult, but Chinese characters and pronunciation is really hard to learn. However, I’m glad to say that nothing is more enjoyable than learning Chinese in Tianjin University after months’ learning. I love Chinese, and I love the teachers and students here as well.

The time that I have spent studying at Tianjin University has not been long, only half a year, but I dare say that Tianjin University has gradually become my second hometown during this time.

Firstly, I have indeed found friends here. In Russia, people usually don’t call others “friend”. Only those who are very intimate, help each other and understand each other will be addressed as “friend”. Here in Tianjin University, I have not only made friends with both Chinese students and foreign students, but also found those who fit the Russian definition of “friend”.

Secondly, during my study I discovered within myself a very strong language learning ability. Thanks to my teacher’s help, I can remember new words quickly and accurately and use the grammar to construct sentences flexibly. Tianjin University provides a wonderful platform for me to learn Chinese. I’ve learnt a lot here and my Chinese proficiency has advanced by leaps and bounds. I am determined to stay in Tianjin University because I want to improve my Chinese, learn more Chinese culture and accumulate working experience.

Last but not least, I want to express my gratitude to all the teachers of Tianjin University. Thank them for helping me through my hard time. Thank them for their support. Without their warm help, maybe I wouldn’t be able to stand here to give you my speech.
