The 2018 China International Big Data Industry Expo (“Big Data Expo”) opened on May 26 and ended on May 29 in Guiyang, Guizhou Province. Wang Chen, a Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, attended the opening ceremony and met representatives of Chinese and foreign entrepreneurs, experts and scholars.

Li Jiajun, the Tianjin University (TJU) Party Secretary attended the meeting. Yuan Yingjin and Hu Wenping, Vice Presidents of TJU, and representatives in charge of different TJU departments and administrative offices and schools went to Guiyang to participate in the activities.

With the theme of “Big Data Makes a Smarter World”, the 2018 Big Data Expo held opening and closing ceremonies, eight high-end dialogues, 65 professional forums, 40 result announcements and 81 investment promotion and other events during the four-day agenda. During the Expo, the Tianjin University delegation visited the Guizhou Big Data Comprehensive Pilot Area Exhibition Center and the Longmaster Company and participated in the opening ceremony of the 2018 Big Data Expo. Before the opening ceremony, Li Yuede, Deputy Secretary of Guiyang Municipal Committee, met with members of the delegation.

Hu Wenping, Vice-President of TJU, was invited to participate in the 2nd Big Data Application Summit Forum for People's Livelihood and Welfare and the International Symposium on Data Science Frontiers. He also met with representatives of the University of California, Berkeley, including Tsu-Jae Liu, Vice Provost of Academic Affairs. They had discussions about further cooperation between Tianjin University and University of California, Berkeley.

Tianjin University, as a co-organizer, participated in the organization of the Big Data Partners Forum of Transportation and Logistics. In the forum, Sun Youhai, Dean of the Law School, Tianjin University, spoke on "The Rule of Law: What Can It Do for Smart Transportation?” In addition, Sun Youhai was also invited to participate in the High-Level Consultation and Demonstration Meeting of Local Legislation for Big Data Security.

The China International Big Data Industry Expo, as the world's first big-data-oriented expo, has been successfully held for three consecutive years. It was officially upgraded to a national-level exposition in 2017 and has now become a barometer for the development of global Big Data and an authoritative and international platform. The 2018 Big Data Expo attracted 388 domestic and foreign exhibitors and agencies, 199 investment projects worth 35.28 billion yuan, and more than 120,000 visitors.
