On June 24, the 2018 TJU Campus Open Day for Enrollment and College Entrance Admission Counselling was successfully held. The event was designed to provide candidates and parents with face-to-face college entrance examination voluntary report counseling.

A continuous stream of candidates and parents came for consultations. Tianjin University offered consultancy through various methods such as on-site consultation, expert lectures, visiting experience, and webcasting. Throughout the Campus Open Day, the Tianjin University Undergraduate Admissions Office, 13 undergraduate enrollment categories and 14 enrollment programs, the Qiushi Honors College, the Xuanhuai School, the Art Education Center, among other departments and offices attended the event. They were able to provide the majority of candidates and parents with information on examination counseling, college entrance examinations, voluntary report counseling and give in-depth explanations of the various programs.

In 2018, Tianjin University enrolled students by major categories for the first time, adding three undergraduate programs: intelligent medical engineering, landscape architecture, and marine science. At the same time, a new round of reform initiatives from enrollment to education attracted the attention of candidates and parents. Apart from consulting on “exam scores for admission”, candidates and parents were more concerned about the “the new programs” this year; while paying attention to “employment rates”. They also gave more attention to the students’ own interests and long-term development. While noting the importance of the campus environment and living conditions, they paid more attention to the university’s culture and atmosphere.

In order to allow candidates and parents to fully understand the university and its programs, Tianjin University’s major categories of programs specifically set up “expert consultation points” around the venues to answer the questions of candidates and parents regarding professional learning. The candidates and parents who came to the consultations raised many questions about the major types of enrollment, admission training, program confirmation, and program changing. Experts answered these questions one by one. At the enquiry point for “Mechanics, Aviation and Energy and Power”, Prof. Wang Tianyou, Dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering, explained the concept of “mechanical” and corrected the traditional impressions of candidates and parents had about the mechanical program. At the “Chemical Energy and Life Medicine” point, Professor Feng Yaqing, a distinguished, national teacher, patiently answered the questions of the candidates and their parents.

In addition to the consulting points, the university also held the "Admission Officer Face to Face - Tianjin University 2018 Enrollment Policy Interpretation" activity and the "Major Categories of Programs Interpretation by Distinguished Teachers" activity. The responsible Admission Office's teacher explained in detail the new Tianjin University's admissions policy, including the major types of enrollment methods that parents and candidates were most concerned about, the method of early batch admission and the new professional transfer policy. Experts from various enrollment programs explained the details of major categories and the advantages of various disciplines and also answered other hot issues that candidates and parents were concerned about.

In order to fully demonstrate Tianjin University’s unique advantages, during the Open Day, the History Museum and multiple laboratories were also opened. The History Museum allowed visitors to fully appreciate the deep foundations of China’s first modern university and the laboratory displays of Tianjin University’s contemporary scientific atmosphere and the excellent design work by students. The Ocean University opened the laboratory to show candidates and parents the world of the sea and to learn about the disciplines surrounding the ocean and marine science. The School of Environmental Science and Engineering opened the C919 cabin interior environment simulation laboratory and demonstrated the whole process of “creating lungs” for large planes, which aroused the interest of students and parents. The Chem-E-Car race car and brain control robot presented by the School of Chemical Engineering and the School of Medical Science and Engineering allowed candidates and parents to experience the most advanced scientific and technological achievements and artificial intelligence technologies on the spot.

In order to serve the majority of examinees and parents better, Tianjin University conducted a live broadcast during the Campus Open Day. About 150,000 candidates and parents could not all visit the site so they were able to learn about the school's enrollment policy and campus culture through the live broadcast. In addition, a number of media reporters from Tianjin TV and Tianjin Radio Stations came to cover the event.
