Recently, the new engineering experimental class (NXP class) undergraduate course training plan seminar was held in the Qiushi Honors College at TJU. The seminar was attended by leaders of NXP Semiconductors, Tianjin University Qiushi Hornors College and relevant departments and offices, including Lin Guohui, Director of Greater China FAE at NXP, Yuan Shunbo, Deputy Director of Tianjin University Office of Academic Affairs, and Shan Xiaolin, Party Secretary of Qiushi Honors College. The seminar held in-depth discussions on the “Undergraduate Training Plan of the New Engineering Experiment Class”.
In response to the revolution in science and technology and industrial upgrading, as well as to meet the strategic needs of building a well-rounded, innovative and intelligent country, Tianjin University and the global semiconductor leader, NXP Semiconductors Co. Ltd. established the Tianjin University New Engineering Experimental Class in an effort to cultivate a high-quality talent pool with global exposure, innovative spirit and practical ability.
Shan Xiaolin explained the purpose and background of this cooperation. He pointed out that new engineering construction has reached a critical period during which we must turn theories into action. On the basis of this cooperation, Tianjin University and NXP will work closely with each other in personnel training, scientific research, and platform construction. Only by doing this, can they explore a new model of artificial intelligence and personnel training in the field of the Internet of Things and lead a new way toward industry-university integration and university-enterprise cooperation under the new engineering paradigm.
From the point of view of talent demand and engineering reality of the company, Lin Guohui described the purpose of the talent training plan and gave his thoughts on the curriculum arrangements of the new engineering experimental class. Additionally, the two sides conducted in-depth exchanges and discussion on the design of the teaching system and teaching model. Based on the Qiushi Honors College and Tianjin International Engineering Institute, the class will enroll students for bachelor and master’s degree from 2018. NXP will provide the class with a strong faculty and assign senior managers, scientific research team members and first-line engineers to participate in the whole process of teaching, experiment design and internships for students. In doing this, it is hoped that the students can master the theoretical knowledge more systematically and actively and apply the theories to engineering practice. What’s more, NXP will provide students with internship opportunities in Fortune 500 companies with all-round support for technology projects and innovative practices. Students will enjoy the laboratory resources of NXP in more than 30 countries around the world, such as the Netherlands, the United States, France, Germany. Excellent students will also get the opportunity to intern in the NXP Global R&D Center. With strong expert resources, they can discovery the real issues in this field and fully tap their potential in project exploration. As a result, the students will be able to improve their ability in academic research and to prepare themselves for international first-class enterprises.
As the world's leading force in embedded application security connectivity technology, NXP Semiconductors has more than 60 years of expertise and experience in this field with operations in more than 33 countries around the world and more than 9,000 patent pools. In 2016 its total revenue reached $9.5 billion. The company is ranked first in the world in intelligent identification, automotive electronics, general microcontrollers, and communication processing chips.
