Tianjin University Initiates New Teaching and Training Models for International Students

In recent years, Tianjin University (TJU), using its own advantages and absorbing international experience, has continuously initiated new teaching and training models for international students and devoted itself to cultivating high-end talented people who understand China and have a global perspective.

In 2017, Tianjin University had more than 3,000 international students, from more than 120 countries and regions around the world. According to the staff of the School of International Education, in recent years Tianjin University, taking advantage of Chinese Government Scholarships, strived to recruit outstanding students so that international students studying at TJU have increased each year.

TJU emphasizes its major disciplines and strengths, and with superior training and management systems the management of international students is standardized and systematic. A roll management system was introduced to collect student information and conduct big data analysis to aid efficient management. Accordingly, international students will have better self-learning abilities and broader horizons and will more easily to adapt to their study and life in China.

Tianjin University has always attached great importance to the construction of majors taught in English. Examples are three undergraduate majors, chemical engineering, environmental energy and pharmaceutical science and 14 postgraduate subjects, including mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, chemical engineering and civil engineering and a doctoral major, applied chemistry (pharmacy science).

The School of International Education of Tianjin University has organized more than 40 practical activities such as folk experience, language practice, and talent competitions to cultivate high-quality foreign students, to become aware of, friendly toward and fond of China. A series of innovative teaching methods have broadened the cultural horizons of international students and given them a deeper understanding of Chinese culture.
