On July 22, the First International Symposium on Epitaxial Graphene and the opening ceremony for the Tianjin International Center for Nanoparticles and Nanosystems, Tianjin University (TICNN) were held at the Weijin Road Campus. Relevant leaders of Tianjin University and Georgia Institute of Technology, Department leaders and famous scholars from China and abroad together with more than 100 teachers and students from the Nano Center attended the Symposium and Ceremony.

The Symposium and Ceremony were hosted by Professor Walt de Heer, Director of TICNN, who introduced the background, development and future planning of TICNN. TICNN received its establishment approval in November 2016 and now has employed 15 experts from 6 countries. He said that the official launch of TICNN ,arked a positive beginning. Tianjin University has provided a valuable opportunity for scientists around the world to solve the major issues of graphene research, and has also conveniently provided great opportunities for international exchange and cooperation in related scientific research.

Yuan Yingjin, Vice President of Tianjin University spoke at the ceremony. He pointed out that Tianjin University has always been concerned about the construction and development of TICNN. He said that the Center will play a major and positive role in strengthening the cultivation of innovative talent, promoting basic research breakthroughs and developing relevant key technologies and hoped that the experts and scholars fromTICNN take the symposium as a platform to cultivate their wisdom and strength to deepen exchange and cooperation, promote the development of nanoscience and technology, and build the Center into a world-class high-end scientific technological talent training and scientific research platform.
