In 2 years and 4 months’ time (over 800 days and more than two cycles of seasons), Tang Chao, a TJU student presented us with the best of TJU at different moments with a 4 minute, 21 second video consisting of more than 20,000 photographs.
His fond memories for TJU are reflected in these photos.
In these photos, every frame well captures the look of the familiar roads we have walked on and the scenery we have appreciated.
“Wherever I might be in the future, deep down, I forever belong to TJU where the crabapple flowers bloom”.

Ingenious Work
“Dreams of TJU’s Weijin Road Campus”
The combination of the sunset scenery of the old campus and the visual effects that are akin to those used at its inception created a marvelous effect. Aerial photography and postproduction were applied in this shot.
"DollyZoom" technology created by the famous film director Hitchcock was used in this shot.
" Xuanhuai Square at Night and Dawn"
By setting up the camera in the middle of the circular square and using a circular fisheye lens, Tang was able to capture the changes of the light from 3 am to 7 am. The Beiyangyuan campus is most beautiful when the sun rises with the star-studded sky gradually turning brighter and brighter.
These images were shot using a panoramic fisheye lens. The above three special effects shots appeared for the first time on a national campus using time-lapse photography.
“If you ask me the reason why I chose to study at TJU, I would tell you that I did so, not only because of its beautiful campus environment and profound cultural atmosphere, but also because of its strength in various fields including education, science and engineering”.
“When asked “What kind of university is TJU?”, will you just blurt out the "model answer” : TJU, the former Peiyang University, is the first modern university in China.
But today, I would like to give you an even more impressive answer to that question.
TJU, by designing a comprehensive discipline distribution featuring “strong Engineering and Science and thriving Liberal Arts and Medical Science”, has established 12 interdisciplinary platforms such as molecular chemistry and materials, integrated optoelectronic devices, safety of large-scale construction projects, among others. TJU has also set up the School of Law, the School of Marxism, the Ma Yichu School of Economics and the Feng Jicai Research Institute of Literature and Art. Its International Research Center for Cultural Heritage Protection is rated as one of China's core think tanks.
TJU defined its own blueprint for building "New Engineering" and launched the "High-Caliber Undergraduate Education 2030 Action Plan". By forging a new education model that combines professional training and liberal education throughout its whole training program, TJU has become a pioneer in the reform and development of China's higher engineering education. This year, the Ministry of Education published an approved batch of research and practice projects in “New Engineering”. TJU, among other colleges and universities, is ranked first in the country with as many as 9 projects being approved.
Results of the fourth round of disciplinary assessments by the Ministry of Education show that among all its first-level disciplines that participated in the rating, TJU had 14 of them rated as A.
TJU designed an extra curriculum and a credit system in practical work so that students can have the opportunity to better understand our national conditions and society through their own practice. TJU’s exploration in “School+” Accommodation Education model promoted the integration of liberal education and professional training.
In June, 2018, the Ministry of Education held the " Undergraduate Education Work Seminar in the New Era" at Sichuan University. It was the first national education conference on “undergraduate education" held in the 40 years since China's reform and opening up. TJU, on behalf of China’s college and universities, spoke at the event.
Apart from the achievements mentioned above, TJU also saw developments in: Management Science that is closely combined with Engineering; Education Science that focuses on projects and vocational education; Intelligent Medical Science that integrates medicine with engineering; Law that is related to environmental ecology and intellectual property; and mathematics that focuses on big data, etc.
TJU is committed to our nation’s prosperity and is working to ensure its people a bright future.
Here are a few lines taken out from TJU’s school anthem that have been set as beliefs as early as 1935: “We enhance our science and engineering by getting to the bottom of the matter in learning. We attach importance to experiments but not small tricks and we transform our nation with our hard work but not empty talk.”
That’s exactly what people of all generations at TJU have been doing. TJU stays committed to our nation’s prosperity and development. It has achieved many things including in: chemical catalytic technology, industrial crystallization technology, underwater drone technology, smart grid technology, manned space mind-control technology, the world's highest dam construction technology, synthetic chromosome technology and the C919 cabin environment control technology. By making contributions to our nation, it also fulfilled its own values.
Strong Engineering and Science, thriving Liberal Arts and Medical science are what will lead us into the future.
Come and join us in this exciting journey.
