The 9th China Undergraduate Physics Tournament was held in Shanxi University from August 15 to 19. The Tianjin university team of undergraduates Li Renyun, Bai Yiming, Huo Jierong, He Lidan, and Lu Shengyue, won the first prize after five rounds of tough competition. Bai Yiming, won a best performance prize in the competition.

The China Undergraduate Physics Tournament (CUPT) is strongly supported by the Ministry of Education and the China Physical Society and has attracted almost all the national "Double-First Class" universities to participate. It has become one of the top competitions in this field recognized by domestic universities, involving nearly 200 universities from six competition divisions. 63 teams from 62 universities reached the national competition, which made for fierce competition.

During the three days of official competition, the Tianjin University team successively challenged 17 open topics with teams from Nankai University, Peking University, Fudan University and the organizer Shanxi University, and eventually won the first prize and a best performance prize in the event.

The five team members of Tianjin University are from the School of Science, the School of Materials Science and Engineering and the School of Precision Instruments and Optoelectronics Engineering. They started the research and preparation of the topics from October 2017.

In the course of one year, they conducted in-depth research, including theoretical analysis, numerical simulation and experimental verification, on 17 open topics related to fluid mechanics, nonlinear acoustics, elastic mechanics and other aspects of physics. In the North China division competition of the China Undergraduate Physics Tournament, the Tianjin University team came first in the three rounds and won the first place and the Grand Prize in the regional competition in May 2018.
