September 5 was the first day for new students at Tianjin University to enroll. Many special activities were prepared for new students to help them know about the University and their own schools as soon as possible. These activities were brilliantly organized, just like the good weather that day.

At the entrance of Tailei Square, there was a huge wall for new arrivals to write down their first impressions and immediate feelings towards Tianjin University. “Tianjin University, I am coming!” “I appreciate meeting with you, Tianjin University.” These words indicated the excitement and joy of new students.

There was a time capsule for new arrivals in the tent of School of Education. They can keep their wishes for the future and their plans for university life in this time capsule. Four years later, the School of Education will return the original wishes to these students to remind them of their dreams. This action can help students examine themselves and plan for the future. Meanwhile, the small capsule represents the expectations and best wishes of the School of Education. “We hope new arrivals can form an initial idea of themselves and their futures at the beginning of their life at Tianjin University through the time capsule activity. Therefore, they are less likely waste these four years.” the people in charge said.

Among the welcoming activities from School of Foreign Languages and Literature, the most special one was a Chinese character “文”, which consisted by forty dimensional barcodes. New arrivals will receive a list of good books that were recommended by seniors through scanning it. “Even though there are four years in university, the time for study is limited. Never count on tomorrow because every day will bring new tasks. Developing a good habit of acting immediately will help you a lot.” These words from seniors gave new students warm reassurance. Some first years left their expectations at the wishing wall with well-designed cards. A new student, Zhang Tong, from the School of Foreign Languages and Literature said, “University is a new start for me. I hope I can still be confident and optimistic. I will persist with my original intentions and move on.” These simple words expressed her firmness of attitude.

Many departments took pictures of the new students and their parents. The School of Materials Science and Engineering prepared a photographic board. Many new students left their first images in Tianjin University on it. The School of Computer Science and Technology took pictures of the new arrivals which were just like the pictures in a WeChat friends circle. The School of Architecture showed a huge board which said, “I love architecture”. This board attracted many of them to take pictures with it. A new student from the School of Architecture said, “We can feel the enthusiasm from the seniors through these activities. It’s very warm.”

The welcoming activities from different departments were distinctive no matter what the forms were. Thousands of words converge into one sentence-"Welcome to Tianjin University!”
