After the 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), a government delegation headed by the Nigerian Edo State Governor, Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, visited Tianjin University (TJU). Representatives from both sides held talks about the further cooperation between Edo and TJU.

During the meeting, Vice President Hu Wenping briefly introduced the development of TJU and its Emerging Engineering education. He pointed out that over 300 African students are studying at Tianjin University. TJU hoped that with the opportunity afforded by the FOCAC Beijing Summit and on the basis of talent cultivation, Tianjin University will deepen cooperation with Edo State in the cultivation of international students, joint research and staff training, and contribute to the common development of China and Africa.

Governor Obaseki expressed his appreciation for TJU’s efforts in cultivating African students and acclaimed TJU’s great achievements attained in recent years. He indicated that Edo has a significant strategic position due to its abundant resources of petroleum and natural gas. Edo has a solid cooperation with Tianjin Tianda Beiyang Chemical Equipment Co. Ltd, which has brought excellent services and advanced technology and knowledge to Edo. He hoped that TJU-Edo cooperation would continue to nurture more young talent and enhance more intellectual exchanges in the future.

Subsequently, TJU, Edo and Tianjin Tianda Beiyang Chemical Equipment Co. Ltd signed a Memorandum of Understanding covering the cultivation of international students, joint research and staff training. During the visit, the delegation looked around TJU’s History Museum and some relevant laboratories, gaining an in-depth understanding of TJU’s history and its scientific research development.
