The Mid-Autumn Tea Party for Tianjin Foreign Experts

On September 20, the Mid-Autumn Tea Party for Tianjin Foreign Experts, co-hosted by Tianjin Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs(TAFEA), Tianjin University and the Tianjin Association for International Personnel Exchange, was held at TJU, with about 60 foreign experts attending. This tea party was designed to allow foreign experts a better understanding of Tianjin and Tianjin University.  

Representatives of TAFEA, Exit and Entry Administration Bureau of Tianjin Public Security Bureau, and Tianjin Foreign Affairs Office attended the party. 

The Director of the Tianjin University Office of International Cooperation Zhang Zhen extended?a warm welcome?and greetings?to?the foreign experts at the tea party. She said, Tianjin University as the first modern university in China has achieved excellent results in engineering. With this progress, a set of great disciplines, such as sustainable development, synthetic biology, oceanography, clean energy, earthquake simulation and its related fields have received high praise both at home and abroad. She also addressed our achievements in internationalization, especially our Overseas Expertise Introduction Project for Discipline Innovation (Project 111) and the pilot for promoting education internationalization in the School of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology. 

However, when making moon cakes themselves, the foreign experts were all confused about the usage of various tools and materials on the table. So, the moon cake master chefs patiently explained and demonstrated the process of making a moon cake. Moreover, the master chefs also taught them step by step how to make them look and taste delicious. With that help the experts began to do well. After stuffing the filling, shaping the cake in the mould, flouring and other steps, everyone showed a sense of pride and couldn’t wait to taste them. Then, a foreign expert, Ribeiro, introduced the traditions and customs of Mid-Autumn Festival to everyone present.Foreign experts Dhimas Whidhi Handani and Bilqia Oktaviani Putri, from the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, who were visiting China through a project of the ACNET-EngTech secretariat attended the tea party and gave an exclusive interview to the TJU Publicity Department. They said they gained a great impression of TJU and enjoyed the life at TJU. When speaking about ACNET-EngTech as a link between China and ASEAN countries, they both agreed that ACNET-EngTech was very important for economic and cultural communication between China and other Asian countries, which promoted the exchange of students. They hope that the cooperation and communication between China and ASEAN will be more efficient and closer in the future. The experts expressed their congratulations on the coming of the 123th anniversary of TJU and hoped Tianjin University will provide a more internationalized curriculum. They also said that Tianjin University had many international partners and expected that students would seize the opportunities to participate in overseas exchange.
