Recently, the World Economic Forum released the 2018 Young Scientists List, and three Chinese scientists from the biomedical field were shortlisted. Duan Xuexin, a young scholar at the School of Precision Instruments and Optoelectronics Engineering of Tianjin University, was on the list.

A total of 36 scientists from around the world were included in the 2018 list of Young Scientists. The scientists, all under the age of 40, had been selected for their dedication to advance the frontiers of sciences as diverse as artificial intelligence, biology and bio-medicine, physics and materials science, and energy and quantum computing, which all contribute to human health, sustainable development, social inclusiveness and equity.

In this selection, three Chinese scientists were on the list, including Duan Xuexin, a Professor at Tianjin University who develops sensors for early disease diagnosis.

Duan Xuexin and his research team have made important breakthroughs in the administration of cell-targeted drugs. They demonstrated the first application of "Using Ultrahigh-frequency ‘Gigahertz’ Acoustic Wave by Thin Film Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS) Resonator for Intracellular Targeting Drug Delivery" in the world. The new technology is known as "a surgery for cells".

During the 12th Annual Meeting of the New Champions, young scientists will also participate in the meeting to address challenges in their core research areas. Professor Duan Xuexin will give an academic speech on the “Application of Gigahertz Acoustic Technology in the Field of Chemical Sensing and Biomedicine” as a representative of Chinese scientists in the exchange between young scientists.
