The National College Student Metallographic Skills Competition is a highly authoritative and large-scale college student competition jointly sponsored by Tsinghua University, Beijing University of Science and Technology, Central South University, National Defense Science and Technology University. Through the successful holding of the first six sessions, it has had a great impact in colleges and universities nationwide, and it has become the largest college student professional skills competition in the field of material science in colleges and universities nationwide. The competition was jointly organized by Northwestern Polytechnical University and Xi'an University of Technology, and attracted 633 players from 210 universities including Tsinghua University, National Defense Science and Technology University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Beijing University of Science and Technology, and Tianjin University.

The School of Materials Science and Engineering of Tianjin University attaches great importance to this competition. As early as May 12th, the Materials College Experimental Center and the Youth League Committee carefully held the Tianjin University-Tianjin University of Technology "Hengyu Cup" Metallographic Skills Competition and the 7th National College Students Metallographic Skills Competition Qualifiers. After multiple selections in the preliminaries, Mr. Zhu Shaoqiang, material science and engineering major, and Mr. Shen Baixing and Mr. Meng Liangyu, materials molding and control engineering, Class 2016, participated as contestants. After more than two months of guidance and training before the game, they eventually competed with 633 players nationwide.

On August 27th and 28th, the metallurgical skills competition was held in the two venues of Northwestern Polytechnical University and Xi'an University of Technology. On the 29th, the final was held at Northwestern Polytechnical University, respectively. In the final stage, Tianjin University teachers and students showed a solid metallurgical skills and skilled experimental ability. After three days of fierce competition, the three contestants have achieved impressive results. Among them, Mr. Zhu Shaoqiang won the first prize and the best popularity award, Mr. Shen Baixing won the second prize and the Leica winner, Mr. Meng Liangyu won the second prize, the team total score won the first prize of the group, instructor Han Yajing, Guo Qianying and Mao Jing was rated as "excellent instructor." In this competition, Teacher Han Yajing, the deputy director of the Experimental Center of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, was appointed as the chairman of the 7th National College Student Metallurgy Skills Supervision Committee to ensure the fairness and fairness of the competition.

The Metallurgical Skills Competition carried out the inscription of Academician Huang Boyun, "Promoting Teaching by Competition, Promoting Reform by Competition, and Promoting Learning by Competition", is a competition for the professional skills of materials students.
