On 11th October, Dr. Xinyan Liu, Legal and Policy Officer of ICRC East Asia Regional Office, and Margherita D’Ascanio, Head of the Legal Department, visited TJULS. Associate Dean Lan Lan, Assistant Professor Sixuan Lu, and Secretary of Foreign Affairs Aijia Yang held a meeting regarding cooperation issues with them.

Associate Dean Lan first introduced TJULS to Dr. Liu and Ms. D’Ascanio including its glorious history, current development, and future vision. TJULS achievements have left them a deep impression.

Ms. D’Ascanio gave a detailed introduction of ICRC. The ICRC mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and other violent situations, and they have always carried out related works with that mission. Various Chinese universities have been cooperating with ICRC in promoting compliance with the international humanitarian law (IHL). ICRC encourages universities to offer IHL courses and supporting IHL teachers. Assistant Professor Lu proposed the cooperative project with ICRC on constructing IHL massive open online course (MOOC). Dr. Liu and Ms. D’Ascanio expressed their willingness to assist the MOOC project.

As a step for TJULS’s internationalization, the visit of Dr. Liu and Ms. D’Ascanio has strengthened the relationship, deepened mutual understanding and formed preliminary cooperation between TJULS and ICRC.
