On 11th October, Dr. Xinyan Liu, Legal and Policy Officer of ICRC East Asia Regional Office, and Margherita D’Ascanio, Head of the Legal Department, visited the Law School of Tianjin University (TJULS) and had a meeting with Lan Lan, the Associate Dean, associate Professor Sixuan Lu, and Aijia Yang , Secretary of Foreign Affairs from the school.

Lan Lan first introduced to Dr. Liu and Ms. D’Ascanio the glorious history, current development, and future visions of TJULS.

Ms. D’Ascanio also gave a detailed introduction about ICRC. The ICRC’s mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims in war and other violent situations. Many Chinese universities have been cooperating with ICRC in promoting compliance with the international humanitarian law (IHL). ICRC encourages universities to offer IHL courses and supporting IHL teachers. Associate Professor Lu proposed a cooperative project with ICRC on constructing IHL massive open online course (MOOC). Dr. Liu and Ms. D’Ascanio expressed their willingness to assist the MOOC project.
