On October 27, the Final of the first Tianjin University “President’s Cup” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition was successfully held. After about two-hours’ intense competition the project, “Integrated Water Treatment Technique” took the championship with highest score while another three the projects “BASIC: Biomass Combustion/the Cornerstone of Gasification Industry”, “Andianmao” and “Intelligent Agriculture Based on Wireless Charging” were awarded first prizes.
The competition revolutionized the traditional competition form, paying more attention to the process of team training. The Xuanhuai School formed a mentor group together with other departments to track and train the teams throughout the competition in order to educate students and promote learning. More than 800 people signed up and a total of over 200 projects were received. Moreover, the competition attracted public interest including alumni and local social circles. The HeBi National Optoelectronic Technology Co., Ltd. established a prize of 100,000 Yuan to support the development of the start-up teams.
Ten experts were invited as judges of the final, including Liu Yi (Chairman of Andon Health Company Ltd.), Zhou Zhiwei (Chairman of Pan-Asia Venture Development Platform), He Yongjun (Director of the Tianjin Technology Financial Center), Tian Jiaxin (CEO of Trustino Capital), Ma Chuanqi (Executive Chairman of HeBi National Optoelectronic Technology Co.,Ltd.), Xiang Zhongxia (Director of Industrial Design of TJU’s School of Mechanical Engineering), and Zheng Chundong (Vice-Dean of TJU’s Xuanhuai School).
There was an extraordinary climax to the competition with the participating teams and their splendid presentations providing details of their competitiveness and expectations in current market. The candidates’ speeches satisfied the judges’ straight-forward and probing questions, winning rounds of rousing applause from the audience. To end the event, Ma Chuanqi, Executive Chairman of HeBi National Optoelectronic Technology Co., Ltd., commented that the teams participating in the competition had extraordinary ideas and had made careful preparations. He also hoped they would become talented innovative entrepreneurs for the benefit of Chinese society.
