On November 8, 2018, in honor of the 40th anniversary of its foundation, an important academic journal in civil engineering, the Journal of Building Structures, has published a series of “Classic Academic Papers”. The paper “Analysis of Double Row Piles in Consideration of the Pile-soil Interaction” published in 2004 by professor Gang Zheng from the School of Civil Engineering of Tianjin University was chosen as a classic academic paper. This paper is co-authored by several professors and a graduate student from the School of Civil Engineering of Tianjin University: professor Gang Zheng, graduate student Xin Li, associate professor Chang Liu, and associate professor Xifeng Gao. It is worth noting that this paper is the only paper from Tianjin University that was chosen to become a “Classic Academic Paper”, and among 40 chosen papers in the special issue of the Journal of Building Structures, it is the only paper in the field of geotechnical engineering.
The distribution of soil pressure between the double-row piles has always been a complex issue in the excavation engineering. On the basis of theoretical analysis and field tests, a reliable calculation model is developed in this paper for providing guideline in excavation with double-row piles.
The Journal of Building Structures was established in 1980 and it is an academic journal which is directed by Architectural Society of China under the supervision of China Association for Science and Technology. It has great influence in the field of civil engineering in China; thus, the selection of the paper represents the influence of our school in this field. Besides, this paper is also of great significance to promote the prosperity and development of geotechnical engineering discipline in School of Civil Engineering of Tianjin University.
