On November 10th, the inaugural meeting of the Professional Committee on Environmental Dispute Multi-Resolution Mechanism of Environment and Resource Law Research Association (“Professional Committee”) of China Law Society (“CLS”) was held at the School of Law of Tianjin University.
Around 30 environmental law scholars, executive directors and directors of CLS Environment and Resource Law Research Association took participation in the inaugural meeting, including Prof. LUE Zhongmei, member of the 13th CPPCC Standing Committee, deputy director of the Social and Legal Committee, and head of the CLS Environmental and Resources Law Research Association; MS. YANG di, the Environmental Resources Trial Division of the Supreme People's Court; Prof. WANG Shuyi from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, vice president of the CLS Environmental Resources Law Research Association; Professor SUN Youhai, vice president of the CLS Environmental Resources Law Research Association and dean of the School of Law of Tianjin University; Prof. YU Wenxuan, director of the Institute of Environmental Law of the China University of Political Science and Law and vice president of the CLS Environmental Resources Law Research Association. In addition, Prof. SUN Guangping, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of Tianjin University and secretary of the Disciplinary Committee also attended the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Ms. ZHANG Junyan, director of the Humanities and Social Sciences Division of Tianjin University and director of the Office of Arts and Cultural Construction.
At the meeting Professor LVE Zhongmei and Prof. Sun Guangping jointly unveiled the professional committee. Prof. YU Wenxuan announced establishment of the Professional Committee on Environmental Dispute Resolution Mechanism of CLS Environment and Resource Law Research Association via reading out “Reply on establishment of the Professional Committee on Environmental Dispute Resolution Mechanism of CLS Environment and Resource Law Research Association”. Prof. SUN Youhai will host the position of chairman and Prof. QIN Tianbao from law school of WU Han University, Prof. YU Wenxuan from China University of Political Science and Law and Prof. Zhang Jianwei from Tianjin University shall host the position of vice-chairman.
Prof. SUN Youhai delivered speech on behalf of the Professional Committee. Prof. SUN introduced that the Professional Committee shall consist of 26 members including one chairman, 3 vice chairman as well as 20 committee member and 2 secretaries. According to Prof. SUN, the Professional Committee will, under the leadership of CLS Environment and Resource Law Research Association, further improve the working mechanism, expand social influence and promote academic exchange to contribute the theoretical update and practical construction of the multi-disciplinary Environmental Dispute Resolution Mechanism.
Prof. Sun Guangping also delivered a speech in which he introduced the achievements of the law school of Tianjin University since its re-establishment. Prof. Sun Guangping appreciated the help and care from all sectors of society.
Prof. LUE Zhongmei made suggestions on the future work of the professional committee members. Firstly, each member shall conduct research in accordance with their respective fields of expertise and professional direction. Secondly, there are three basic tasks of the Professional Committee, namely, setting up a high-level research platform, producing a number of landmark achievements, and cultivating a group of talents who could contribute to the construction of environmental law in China. Thirdly, the research outcomes of Professional Committees should follow practice and adhere to practice. At last Prof. LUE Zhongmei expressed that scholars shall focus on the practical needs of China's ecological civilization, and do some institutional design that can really contribute the society.
After the inauguration meeting, the Supreme People's Court Environmental Damage Judicial Identification Research Base (Tianjin University), the Professional Committee and the Research Institute of China Green Development of Tianjin University jointly hosted the 2018 Annual General Meeting of the Supreme People's Court Environmental Damage Judicial Identification Research Base as well as conference on “Research on Compensation Procedures for Ecological Environmental Damage”.
