On November 6, the first “Peiyang Medical Lecture Hall” at Tianjin University was held at the Weijin Road Campus. Focusing on “Discussion and Cooperation of China-Netherlands Medical Frontiers”, the first lectures focused on the quality of knowhow and the structure of medical personnel cultivation in the new era, the teaching level of the medical specialty in Tianjin and personnel training. The lectures also explored the active creation of a broader network for cooperation and exchange of global medical education, through exchanging and demonstrating the latest research techniques and achievements in medicine, teaching, research and enterprises.
The first lectures brought many experts and scholars together, who came from the University of Groningen, Tianjin University, a number of world-class hospitals, and ten medical-related enterprises. They reported on the developmental trends in medical education, the intellectualization of medical technology and precision medicines technology.
The keynote speaker of the first Peiyang Medical Lecture, Qu Ning said: “Only when we grasp the mood of the times, fathom the frontiers of medical research and reach international standards can we cultivate internationalized medical personnel with a world vision and a Chinese soul.” Qu Ning is the first overseas supervisor hired by the Medical College of Tianjin University, a Professor of the School of Medicine of the University of Groningen and the Chairman of the Sino-European Medical Innovation and Co-operation Foundation. He declared that the “Peiyang Medical Lecture Hall” has built a broader and deeper platform for academic exchange, which will help perfect an international medical teaching system and promote an international level of personnel training.
According to Professor Ming Dong, Director of the TJU Medical Development Office, with the mission of developing the experimental field for innovative medicine research and producing high-end medical talented people, and through holding the “Peiyang Medical Lecture Hall”, the Medical College focuses on interdisciplinary, military-civilian integration, forward deployment, the practical conversion of research achievements, and exploring an international multi-angle but a uniquely TJU style of training of medical technology students.
The Tianjin University Medical College has been planning and exploring new training models with an open mind since its foundation in April, 2018. In order to cultivate talent suited to clinical work, promote the construction of medical science and industrial integration and broaden the international horizons of medical education, the college initiated the “three-supervisor system” with a clinical mentor, industrial mentor and overseas mentor working together. At the meeting, on behalf of the Tianjin University Medical College, Ming Dong issued another 10 supervisor employment letters to experts, including Professor Ren Yijin, Director of the Kolff Biomedical Engineering and Material Institute of the Medicine Center of the University of Groningen, Wang Chunhui, Director of the Man-Machine-Environment System Engineering Research Institute of Astronaut Center of China and Deputy Director of the Ergonomics National Defense Technology State Key Laboratory, Wang Xinfeng, Chairman of the Sino-fortune Senior Industry Company, Professor Li Jie, Director of Tianjin Anding Hospital, and Professor Cui Hualei, Deputy Director of Tianjin Children’s Hospital and Director of the Tianjin Pediatrics Research Institute, which further supplemented the faculty’s quality clinical teaching personnel and the integration of industry and education.
Afterwards, the experts and scholars who attended the conference visited Tianjin Hospital, Tianjin University, accompanied by some Professors from related school. They listened to talks on the hospital’s scientific research and smart healthcare assistance systems, sports medicine, the trauma center and many other projects.
Peiyang Medical Lecture Hall is a series of medical lectures sponsored by Tianjin University Medical College. In the future, it will continue to hold high-end, cutting –edge and authoritative lectures to help students on campus broaden their international and academic horizons, understand the research hotspots and theoretical frontiers and to build a wide platform of “Patriotic Feeling and Global Vision” for medical students at Tianjin University.
