On November 18-21, 2018, the 5th National Conference on Mass Transfer and Separation Engineering was held in Tianjin University.
Academician Yu Guozhen was honorary chairman of the conference, and Academician Fei Weiyang of Tsinghua University was elected as the conference. Chairman of the Academic Committee, Professor Yuan Xigang from the School of Chemical Engineering is the chairman of the conference. Zhang Fengbao, Vice President of Tianjin University, and Wang Zhi, Party Secretary of the School of Chemical Engineering attended the opening ceremony. The conference invited academicians of the US National Academy of Engineering, academician of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Professor of Purdue University Rakesh Agrawal, professor of Beijing University of Chemical Technology, and Fellow of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry. Wang Wenchuan, professor of Tsinghua University, Luo Guangsheng, director of the United Nations Key Laboratory of Chemical Engineering, and Tony Cai, chief scientist of FRI Corporation of the United States, and other six well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad made a report. More than 180 representatives from 33 universities, research institutes and enterprises at home and abroad attended the meeting.
The conference was hosted by the United Nations Key Laboratory of Chemical Engineering of Tianjin University and the Institute of Chemical Engineering of Tianjin University. It was supported by the Chemical Engineering Committee of the Chinese Chemical Society, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the Tianjin Science and Technology Commission.
Vice President Zhang Fengbao delivered a speech at the opening ceremony, pointing out that mass transfer and separation engineering is a key technology in chemical engineering and industrial production, supporting the development of China's national economy and modernization, as well as science and technology innovation and realizing the great rejuvenation of the nation. In the process of dreams, facing many new problems and new challenges, the convening of the conference is of great significance.
With the theme of “New Challenges, New Theories and New Methods of Mass Transfer Separation Engineering”, more than 112 representatives from home and abroad attended the new theoretical and new applications of mass transfer separation thermodynamics and kinetics, computational mass transfer and process simulation, and mass transfer separation process. In-depth exchanges and discussions on the frontiers of mass transfer separation process enhancement, process design, amplification and system optimization, system energy conservation theory and methods, carbon dioxide capture, biochemical mass transfer separation process and technology. After the judging, five graduate students won the “Excellent Poster Presentation Award”.
During the meeting, Prof. Zhang Fengbao, Vice President of Tianjin University, presented the certificate of visiting professor of Tianjin University to Rakesh Agrawal, an academician of the US National Academy of Engineering, a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and a professor at Purdue University. He hoped that the cooperation between the two sides in the field of mass transfer and separation would further promote Purdue University and Tianjin University have comprehensive strategic cooperation in discipline construction, education and teaching, scientific research, and personnel training.
