Tianjin University Wins China Patent Gold Award

On December 25, at the 20th ceremony for the WIPO-CNIPA Award for Chinese Outstanding Patented Invention & Industrial Design held in Beijing, a Tianjin University (TJU) patent won a Gold Award.

The patent was awarded for an invention by Professor Liu Tiegen’s team. It is one of the important technologies in smart sensor and security systems. The patent is for key technology and equipment for public security, the development of which is greatly supported by national policy and playing an important role in ensuring public security and city security.

Using communication optical fiber cable monitoring, islands of safety monitoring, border security monitoring and fiber-optic distributed disturbance sensors (FDDS) it has the potential for enormous economic growth and its value is expected to reach thousands of billion yuan. At present, the patent has been transferred and applied to companies such as TIANDY Co. Ltd, and Nanjing XINTIANWEI Co. Ltd, gaining remarkable economic and social benefits.

Altogether 40 patents, including 30 patents for invention and utility model and 10 patents for industrial design won the gold award.
