A Tianjin University (TJU) customized New Year decoration, the Chinese character “Fu”, meaning blessing, good fortune, or happiness was sent to TJU students on Commencement Day (Graduation Ceremony) on January 22.

As the 2019 Spring Commencement Day is close to the Spring Festival, Tianjin University prepared a special gift, the Chinese character “Fu” for all graduates, hoping that students can contribute to the national development and make success with good fortune in any part of the country and often come back “home” to visit their alma mater.

Undergraduates, masters and PhD students can also receive this gift through an online application.

“Wufu”, meaning five blessings, is popular in Chinese culture. It signifies good fortune and luck. The Chinese character “fu” of the gift was handwritten by brush pen by five people at Tianjin University with five themes:

“Rigorous Scholarship” was written by TJU Professor Peng Yigang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

“Patriotism and Devotion” was written by Professor Feng Jicai, Dean of the Feng Jicai Institute of Literature and Art at Tianjin University.

“Revitalization of Country through Education” was written by Party Secretary Li Jiajun.

“Seeking Truth From Facts” was written by President Zhong Denghua, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

“Innovation” was written by Liu Ziheng, a first year student majoring in Intelligent Medical Engineering, using the Brain-Controlled intelligent Arm Robot, "Na Cha".

The Brain-Controlled Intelligent Arm Robot System, named "Na Cha”, is the latest achievement of the Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) series independently developed by a neural engineering team at Tianjin University. It has created a world record of the largest instruction set (108) of online scalp EEG BCI control. Liu Ziheng used a brain-controlled mechanical arm to write the character "Fu" stroke by stroke with a brush.
