Recently, twenty-four Tianjin University’s projects won 2016 Tianjin Science and Technology Awards at the annual Conference, ranking in the top in terms of the total number of prizes as well as the number of first prizes. Among the twenty-four awards won by Tianjin University, fifteen were completed by Tianjin University as a first unit institution, nine were First Prizes, four Second Prizes and two Third Prizes.
Tianjin University won a total four first prizes in the Technology and Invention Awards category at the conference. The four projects were: "Artificial Neural Rehabilitation Robot System and Its Key Technologies" led by Professor Ming Dong from the School of Precision Instrument and Optoelectronics Engineering, " Key Technologies of Event Recognition and Opto-electronic Information Fusion Sensing" led by Professor Liu Tiegen from the School of Precision Instrument and Optoelectronics Engineering, “Key Technologies to Meet the Euro VI Emission Standard for Heavy Duty Diesel Engine and its Industrial Application" led by Professor Yao Mingfa from the School of Mechanical Engineering, and "Comfortable 3D Display Technologies and Applications based on Depth Computing " led by Professor Hou Chunping from the School of Electrical Automation and Information Engineering.
The project " Green Preparation of Graphene and its Applications in Heterogeneous Catalysis " , led by Professor Fan Xiaobin from the School of Chemical Engineering, won the first prize of the Natural Science Award category, revealing the deoxidation law of graphene oxide under strong alkaline conditions and being the first to propose the concept of "green preparation of graphene".
Four projects from TJU won the first prize of the Science and Technology Progress Awards category. They were: "Green Technology Development and Industrialization of Novel Anticoagulant Clopidogrel Hydrogen Sulfate" led by Professor Gong Junbo from the School of Chemical Engineering, "Rapid detection damage detection and life cycle risk control of large scale bridge and tunnel: Technology and Application" led by Professor Zhu Jinsong from the School of Civil Engineering, "Key-technology and Application on Quench System in Large-scale Ethylene Unit" led by Professor Li Xingang from the School of Chemical Engineering, and "Pile Driving Controlling Equipment and Evaluation of the Bearing Capacity of Large Diameter and Super Length Steel Pipe Pile for Offshore Engineering" led by Professor Liu Run from the School of Civil Engineering.
It was reported that Tianjin University ranked first for consecutive years in the number of awards and first prizes it won. Among all the TJU entries, the proportion of award-winning projects rose from 68% in 2015 to 83%, and that of first-prize-winning projects from 41.18 % in 2015 to 60%.
