Excellent Achievements in the Chinese Mathematics Competition

Recently, the Eighth Chinese Mathematics Competition was held in the University of Science and Technology Beijing. Six Tianjin University students including Wang Xin and Yan Zhen from the College of Management and Economics, Cui Kaihua, Xu Hang, and Feng Tao from Qiushi Honors College, and Wang Xinyi from the School of Electrical Automation and Information Engineering, represented the Tianjin division in the final, and obtained excellent results including three first prizes and three third prizes in the non-mathematics major. Up to now, Tianjin University (TJU) has won first prizes in the competition for four consecutive years. The competition covering hundreds of universities has twenty-eight divisions, and more than 80,000 participants. In the preliminaries, thirty-seven students from TJU won first prizes, eleven won second prizes, forty-three gained third prizes, and six others entered the final.

Organized by Chinese Mathematical Society, the competition is one of the top and the most influential competitions in China. Through the students’ participation, the TJU mathematics teaching team has reformed the methods of mathematics education and talent cultivation, and also developed students’ interests and capabilities in mathematics.
