On May 13th, 2017, the famous calligrapher, Professor Tian Yunzhang of Nankai University, delivered a speech about how to write regular script well on the fourth floor of Tianjin Book Plaza. The speech was sponsored by the People's Daily Online (Tianjin Channel), Tianjin University Press and Tianjin Book Plaza.  

During the lecture, Tian talked about the beauty of calligraphy and said that as Chinese we must write Chinese calligraphy well. Teenagers may benefit from learning regular script since it helped develop people's aesthetic ability, sharp observational skills and indomitable will. He also shared with the audience his early experience of learning calligraphy, where he had to use a second-hand Chinese calligraphy brush to practice writing on waste paper as no good ones were available. He practiced very hard and wrote at least five hundred characters each day. Tian’s serious attitude, profound knowledge, and courteous style received praise from the audience. 

A book signing session was held after the lecture. Tian’s three new books, Basic Course for Regular script by Tian Yunzhang, The Collection of Tian Yunzhang's calligraphy, and The Collection of Fan Zeng's poems written by Tian Yunzhang were introduced and offered for sale to the audience.
