On May 14, the 5th National Undergraduate Engineering Training Integration Ability Competition came to a close at the Hefei University of Technology. Tianjin University’s “automatic-control” team participated in the competition. The team was composed of three students from the School of Mechanical Engineering at Tianjin University, including Wang Xing, Wang Weijie and Ye Yixiang. Zhang Chao and Dong Jingchuan, from Training Center of Mechanical Engineering, were the supervisors of the team. After two-day’s competition, the “automatic-control” team obtained a first prize, ranking it eighth among 104 competing teams.

The theme of this competition was 'crossing obstacles in a gravitational potential-energy-driven automatic controlled cart'. To meet the requirements for the competition, participants were able to make some pre-contest preparations and then completed an operational device on the site of the competition. Each team was composed of three students, one designing, processing and making the walking wheels of the device, one welding and debugging the circuit board, and one disassembling and installing the cart. Finally the three students worked together on mechanical-electric debugging to achieve the required performance and on-site testing. Over 3,700 teachers and students from 381 national universities attended the qualifying competition, after which, 104 teams of 95 universities from 26 provinces and regions entered the final.
