On May 26th, 2017, the University Anthem and History Performance Competition was successfully held at the Student Center on Weijin Road Campus. Participants from twenty schools performed fascinating dramas following the timeline of Tianjin University's splendid history to show the struggles of its foundation and its current thriving development.

　　Students from the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology were the first to perform. Their drama narrated the story how Sheng Xuanhuai, the founder of TJU, managed to raise educational funding and employ qualified teachers to start the first modern university in China during the late Qing Dynasty when the country was still dominated by prevailing feudal forces. A warm round of applause was given for their heartfelt performance and elaborate costumes.

　　Apart from Sheng Xuanhuai, other principals who made great contributions to the university were represented. For example, the participants from the School of Foreign Languages and Literature paid tribute to Principal Zhao Tianlin by vividly demonstrating how he put forward the school motto "Seek truth from facts" and sacrificed his life for the country.

　　At the end of the competition, delegates from the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology were awarded the first prize due to their amazing stage effects. Students from the School of Education and the School of Management and Economics received the second prize, while the third prize was presented to three other schools.

　　The University Anthem and History Performance Competition is held each year in honor of the university’s predecessors and the glorious days in its history. It is hoped that students will pass on the university motto of seeking truth from facts from generation to generation.
