On November 20, the final of the 2022 China College Students Mechanical Engineering Innovation and Creativity Competition - Industrial Engineering and Lean Management Innovation Competition was successfully held. The theme of this competition is"Lean Building as Foundation, Innovation for Powerful Country".
The competition was hosted by Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, undertaken by the College of Management and Economics of Tianjin University (TJU) and the Industrial Engineering Branch of China Mechanical Engineering Society. It was cosponsored by the Industrial Engineering and Management Branch of Management Science and Engineering Society, the Management Technology Branch of Innovation Methods Research Society, Tianjin Lean Management Innovation Society, and Tianjin Industrial Engineering Society. The final was supported by Shanghai Xianke Information Technology Co., Ltd.
The Industrial Engineering and Lean Management Innovation Competition has become a national excellence competition project to further promote the industrial engineering and lean management field. The competition is held once a year and has been successfully held five times so far since its inception in 2018.
Professor Mao Zhaofang, Deputy Director of the College of Management and Economics (CoME) of TJU, Vice Chairman of the Society for International Production and Operation Management (POMS), and Executive Director of the Competition Organizing Committee, welcomed the participating teams on behalf of the Organizing Committee. He thanked the expert judges for their support for the competition and introduced the situation of the competition over the past five years since its inception, as well as the composition of judges and scoring criteria for the national final. Since the launch of this Industrial Engineering and Lean Management Innovation Competition, it has caused a sensation nationwide, receiving 326 entries from 96 universities in 23 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government, which highlights the influence and radiation of the competition. A total of 15 undergraduate groups and 9 graduate groups entered the final. The final was held in the form of "off-line+on-line",with some of the judges present at the finals and all teams presenting online, and the entire competition was broadcast live online through the Haitang Live platform.
Lu Da-ming, vice president of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, delivered a speech and announced the launch of the final. On behalf of the host, he wished the competition a complete success and expressed heartfelt thanks to the participating teachers and students, friends in the industry, judging experts, organizers and people from all walks of life. He mentioned that the Industrial Engineering and Lean Management Innovation Competition has been held for five times so far, and each session has received hundreds of excellent entries from all over the country, which is inseparable from the efforts of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society. It was emphasized in the report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China that "high-quality development is the primary task of building a socialist modern country in an all-round way. To build a modern industrial system, we should focus on the real economy, promote new industrialization, and accelerate the construction of a strong manufacturing country, a strong quality country, a strong aerospace country, a strong transportation country, a strong network country, and a strong digital China." Over the past 30 years, the cultivation and application of industrial engineering talents have undergone tremendous changes. At present, 257 colleges and universities in China have set up industrial engineering majors. Graduates of undergraduate, master and doctoral degree are distributed in all walks of life. Industrial engineering theory has brought innovative methods for industrial development, as well as optimized theoretical methods and systematic thinking modes for the realization of scientific and technological innovation.
Subsequently, 24 teams from the undergraduate group and the graduate group conducted online presentation and real-time defense of their entries. Famous experts from the industry and academia evaluated and scored for entries according to the topic selection, research methods, significance of conclusions, team capabilities, etc.
After the presentation of all entries, Professor Qi Ershi, Honorary Leader of the Competition Evaluation Expert Group and Dean of the Management Innovation Institute of TJU, commented on the competition. He mentioned that this competition has been successfully held to the fifth session, which fully reflects the characteristics of high level of entries and close to the needs of production practice. He hoped that the contestants could focus on summing up historical experience, insist on innovation and development. He encouraged all the participants to earnestly study the report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, combine it with the major needs of national industrial development, and make due contributions to the development of China's industrial engineering.
After a day of fierce competition,8 teams including Tianjin University won the first prize; 16 teams including Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics won the second prize; 56 teams including Qingdao University of Technology won the third prize.
The China College Students Mechanical Engineering Innovation and Creativity Competition— Industrial Engineering and Lean Management Innovation Competition was jointly founded by the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society and the Industrial Engineering Teaching Steering Committee of Colleges and Universities of the Ministry of Education. The competition strives to further promote the popularization and application of industrial engineering and lean management innovation methods and technologies. It helps to broaden the scientific and technological innovation vision of college students and build an exhibition and experience exchange platform for the innovative achievements of industrial engineering and lean management for college teachers and students and all sectors of society.
