Among first-year students of Tianjin University, the youngest one is 15-year-old Tang Qijin from Shangqiu, Henan province.

Born in February 2007, Tang was admitted to Tianjin University's engineering experimental class (on new materials and processing technology) with excellent results in this year's national college entrance examination.

At 7 a.m. that morning, Tang was eager to move in to Peiyangyuan Campus of Tianjin University. He completed the procedures with the help of volunteers.

Given that his grandmother was a teacher in elementary school, which was right next door to his home, Tang Qijin, who had only attended kindergarten for one year, followed his grandmother to elementary school at the age of 4. After the first grade, his grandmother spent the summer vacation "prepping" him for the second grade, but this made him jump straight to the third grade at the beginning of the school year.

"I was pretty smart when I was a kid, I guess, or I wouldn't have mastered it so fast." The shy boy kept smiling when he talked about his experience as a child, "but I don't think I’m outstanding.I'm just an ordinary college student now."

Tang Qijin has a round-face, smiling a lot when he talks. For the upcoming college life, Tang is a little nervous and worried, but he is more excited and looking forward to it.

He is a little worried about his ability to take care of himself. After all, he has been studying throughout his secondary school years. He said: “I hope I can become mature as soon as possible in college." Talking about his daily life, Tang smiled shyly and said, "I think I'm still a bit childish, for example, I am still a big fan of cartoons."

As it is the first time he leaves his hometown to study alone, he admitted that his parents are a little worried about him. But he believes his ability to take care of himself will be fully exercised in the next four years. What's more, he has always been a very popular guy, so he has the confidence to make a lot of friends and integrate into the community life at TJU.

When it comes to his choices of Tianjin University and his major of materials, Tang said that the key to achieve the desired results is his stable mentality, neither overwhelmed by victory, nor discouraged by defeat, instead he follows the teacher's pace with a focused mind. Tianjin University is his dream school. He also looks forward to the following four years, to get to know the renowned university and his major better, and then to study hard and continue his postgraduate studies.
